MORNING GLORY

Loud screams and shouts were heard outside as I was in the bedroom making the bed. They sounded a bit more raucous than usual so I quickly made my way down the hallway.

“Mom! Mom! Mom!”

Worry and fear begin to creep up as sudden thoughts fill my head of what could be wrong.
And then…

“MOM! You’ve got to come see the Morning Glory's!!! They’re blooming!!! Can you believe it?!”

Relief and joy flood my heart.
Yes, the Morning Glory's!

A few months ago, at the prompting of Oma, we shoveled dirt, dug mini holes, and with delicate fingers placed the Morning Glory seeds in their new garden home. The vines have been thriving and spreading everywhere but lacking the beautiful blooms that are one of my favorites.

And then on a sweet Tuesday morning as the sun shone over the tall pine trees, my oldest discovers their first white and blue petals.
And I’m reminded of the joy in simplicity. The way a garden can build a childs wonder and knowledge better than a book .  And yet also, how a silly book of children poems can often bring my kids to laughter better than any show on TV.

Little moments like these are gentle reminders to keep on with simple living. The gift of wonder cannot be replaced!
